Jared's Graduation was on Saturday - I just wanted to express my gratitude to him and all his hard work these past 6 years - it's a lot of work to stay dedicated to education and to balance your social life, school life, and still prioritize your family. He is a great husband, and a great dad. I know he will be a successful provider. We are so proud of him. I also wanted to extend a thank you to all of our family for supporting us and loving us. Thank you for all your sweet graduation gifts and words of encouragement and praise. We could not have made it through these past 6 years without you.

This is just a silly video of the kiddies

Kendal talking

Here is a fun video I took of Kendal this past week - nothing too exciting and probably only worth watching if your grandma or grandpa : )

I've been taking the kids swimming about twice a week at the YMCA because it's nice to have the one on one time with each of them and it's great exercise for them, and because our apartment pool hasn't opened yet - the kids love it! Kendal goes under water very well and whenever I bring her up out of the water she nods her head and says, "K" meaning "I'm o.k." - it's really cute! I'll play ring around rosy with both of them and then on the part where you say "we all fall down" I dunk them under the water - they're getting used to it but a couple of times last week when I took Kendal I would get to that part of the song and she would start shaking her head no and saying, "no,no,no" - meaning she did not want to go under the water - even though she's good at it doesn't mean she's very comfortable with it - it's a scary thing to go under the water.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was Sa-weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet this year. It started with Talen bringing me a beautifully wrapped small Macy's box in bed as I was just starting to wake up. I opened the box only to find a new beautiful pearl necklace and earings. I can't tell you how long I've been wanting pearls - and these ones were real fresh water pearls. I thought it was very thoughtful and sweet of Jared.

Then We went to church and at the end of Relief Society all the young men carted in chocolate cake, cream puffs, and strawberries, along with carnations for all the women. It was really really nice. Mother's day is a pretty cool day I've decided. Then we came home and had some good friends over for dinner. Jared made some delicious St. Louis style ribs, green beans, corn muffins, and homemade macaroni and cheese. It was a great dinner coupled with great company. All Day Talen kept coming up to me and giving me hugs around my legs and saying, "Happy Mover's Day Mommy!" It was really sweet.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you amazing moms out there - What we do everyday is hard work and may at times seem uneventful and unimportant but what we're doing is the most important thing that we could be doing and should be doing, and the Lord blesses us everyday because of it, he knows our needs, he knows our struggles and heartaches, and he hears our prayers.

Photo Shoot

I've recently been inspired from looking at many photography websites to start playing more with my photos in photoshop, and playing more with our camera - I wanted to take some artistic shots of the kids to send to the grandparents for mother's day - and this is what I ended up with. I think that someday it would really be fun to get more into photography and maybe start doing it on a more professional level(someday) - who knows maybe if Jared can't find a job we'll start our own business. Now I'm a novice at photoshop and this is really my first time trying anything like this - so don't judge too harshly. I had a hard time with a lot of the photos getting the look that I wanted and some of the lighting techniques were challenging

First Haircut's (Official)

We got the kids first official haircuts this week at "Pigtails and Crew cuts" It was great place to go for their first time- they had toys and cartoons on and suckers and stickers for after - I would definitely recommend it.

Talen's hair was getting so so thick all over - he was starting to look a little shaggy to the point where we couldn't even style it anymore and we don't have the skills to give him a real haircut (in the past we've just buzzed it all one length to cut it) And the stylist convinced me that Kendal almost had a mullet going on with her hair, so I let him take about a whole inch off the back (which drove me nuts because I want it to be long like yesterday) but he said that the sides haven't had a chance to catch up to the back and so as long as the sides are shorter than the back it's going to look like a mullet - I completely understood him when he said that - so he blended the sides to the back and shortened and stacked the back - I think it looks a lot better - but I do miss the length - they both loved it -

I had to give her this phone because she kept wiggling around - it's a good thing these chairs had straps for little wigglers

Stony Point Fountains

Kendal and I went to the Stony Point Fountains on a mommy-daughter date - with a few friends - it was really quite fun - to just be with her (doesn't happen very much) I think one on one time is so so important - especially with your second child - where they never ever get one on one time because they are always competing for your attention with their other sibling. It felt like I only had one child for a few hours and it was unbelievably easy - she even seemed different to me - more relaxed, less high strung. When she's with Talen he really aggravates her and a lot of the times brings out the worst in her (ya know because she's always trying to keep up with him, and when she can't she gets frustrated, she's always trying to fight for attention, and they are always fighting over toys etc) I loved just being with Kenny and enjoying a relaxing evening at the mall - we even went shoe shopping together! She was an angel.

I love this picture

She's not quite sure if she wants to play in the freezing water

My little cutie - patootie

Playing with Carter's sunglasses

Little friends, Carter Hansen, Kendal, Jude Heiner, and Bayles Black.
You babies are so dang sweet!

I'm sure we'll go back again and again this summer (at least until we move - who knows when that will be)

Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA

We went to Healthy Kids day at the Y on Saturday - and it was super duper funaliscious! They had tons of activities for the kids to do, free healthy snacks (chips, juice, apples etc.) We got some free coupons and prizes, and I don't think Talen has sweated so much in his entire life - he played so hard and he couldn't get enough of the excitement - they had one of those big blow up obstacle courses and he went on that thing at least 6 times - he completely loved it. And Kendal well, she couldn't stop dancing to all the loud music and chasing, throwing, and catching all the balls that were everywhere. She was so so giddy - it was really cute to see them both so excited!

Kendal and a ball

smile kiddos... please

and another ball...

And another ball

This climbing wall was like 8 feet tall and he tackled it with little difficulty... he's becoming a big boy

dive!

Crawl!

Getting ready to go again - this is the beginning of the obstacle course.

Another ball

... and another (our little sporty girl)

We waited in line for Talen to play on this for about 30 minutes - hopefully it was worth it!

A few reasons why Ukrops is my new favorite place to shop

For those of you not living in Virginia this store is pronounced (You-crops). When we first moved here we kept driving by all these Ukrops stores saying "what in the world is that store? Is it "Uh-krups" I wonder what it is- what do they sell?" Well we quickly found out it was a grocery store and I must say it's not your average grocery shopping experience, and here are some reasons why:

1. They offer close parking not only to handicapped individuals but also for "Parents with infants". Can you believe that? I now enjoy the same rights as handicapped people (Kendal isn't really an "infant" per say, but close enough.

2. Their baggers not only smile at you and bag your groceries in a timely fashion, but they are also required to take your groceries out and help you load your car, and don't even try to tip them because they are not allowed to accept it. How nice is that? (You won't get that at Kroger or Food Lion)

3. Their default bagging is paper and you have to specifically ask for plastic? Why is this cool? Paper is so much stronger, and they have room for a lot more groceries than plastic, causing you to use less bags, which in turn takes up less space in your car, which in turn means less trips from the car to your house, and it also saves the planet : ) (One bag at a time)

4. Ukrops is closed on Sundays and most major holidays (they care about their employees and respect the Sabbath - a great reason to support them)

5. They don't sell any alcohol (Is this Ukrop guy a mormon?)

6. They have a useful "fuel perks" program- for every x amount of money you spend you get x amount off gas at participating gas stations - pretty cool, you just swipe your "valued customer" card at the pump - it applies the discount and then you pump and pay normally.

7. And last but not least (and my most favorite reason for shopping at Ukrops) they have "TOT SPOTS" in all their larger stores. What is a "Tot Spot" you ask? Only one of the best things I've ever seen in a grocery store in my entire life.

It is exactly what it sounds like - a spot where you take your tots to play, while you shop. Open 10-6 everyday. FREE. 18 months and up.

This is HUGE - my kids are awful at the grocery store and this makes my experience a gazillion times better. I took them last week for the first time and plan on doing it from now on (Kendal is only 16 months - but they took her anyway). My kids were the only two in there, a nice lady hung out with them, Talen played with trucks and blocks, and watched Curious George, and when we left they both gave the nice lady a hug, and she said, "Hope to see you back here soon." UNBELIEVABLE!

This little gem of an idea benefits all party's involved - it benefits muaw because I'm enjoying my shopping experience, maybe a little too much to the point where I'm shopping longer because I enjoy the break from the kids (which benefits Ukrops), and my kids benefit because they get to play with toys they have never seen before and they get to look forward to going to "play" at the grocery store - EVERYBODY WINS. I'll tell you what I'm excited about this - really excited!

Maybe I am a valued customer - after all.

Here are two stories why you should never shop at Kroger (at least at the one by my house) One shopping trip at Kroger a manager argued with me on a price of an item and told me, "How much you wanna make a bet?" and then when we went over to check the item in big black letters it said the price that I had quoted - well she gave me some excuse about how that was last week's price and that she'll give it to me for the price even though it's not correct and that it's not her fault that the other employees didn't take down the sign - blah blah blah - What happened to customer service? Well thanks for giving it to me for the price that was advertised, so sorry to cause you a headache. Geez.

And one more quick story just to make my point even more clear. The week that Talen and Kendal had RSV I was on my way to Kroger to fulfill a prescription - Talen threw up in the car all over his clothing and car seat on the way there. The doctor told me to get them on their antibiotics immediately so I made the decision to take him into the store in his underwear and just grab the drugs quick. I didn't want to go all the way home, put on new clothes, sponge out the vomit from the car, get loaded back in the car - go back out to the store etc. (plus it was already noon - the were starving, sick and ready for naps - so I was trying to hurry the day along)

Well, while I was waiting for the prescriptions to be filled one of the Kroger employees asked me where Talen's clothes were, I told her that he was sick and had thrown up in the car on the way to the store and that I was fulfilling some prescriptions. She then began to mumble how it was breaking her heart to see a child without clothing, how it was so disgusting, inappropriate, and un-sanitary to have a child in a grocery store in nothing but his underwear, told me to hire help because I obviously can't handle motherhood on my own, told me I was a bad mother for bringing a child into a store with no clothes on and insulted me by telling me that I was being a bad mother by embarrassing my poor child in public. I fought the urge to strangle this woman's neck and just walked away from her and made a complaint with the manager. What a way to be treated at a grocery store - where I'm giving you business.

Well not anymore. I'm never shopping at Kroger again, and I'm hoping by word of mouth everyone who reads this won't shop there either.

I know this was like watching a Ukrops commercial - no advertisement intended - I'm just really excited about actually looking forward to grocery shopping in the future - it's something I've never experienced : )

And it's just another reason why I really don't want to leave Virginia yet : (

Funny Clip

I look forward to watching "The Office" every week - it always puts a smile on my face. I hope you enjoyed the clip.
